SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Halloween is still weeks away, but there's already a mystery gripping the city of Springfield on social media.

An eerie snapshot posted to Facebook has over a thousand shares.

Western Mass News spoke with the person who took the picture trying to unravel the secret behind the ghostly apparition in the photo.

In nearly every scary movie haunted places are old, uninhabited dark spaces.

But MGM Springfield is now setting the scene for a possible spooky encounter.

"My friend was kind of messing with things that she shouldn’t have been and we thought it was funny so we went to take a photo of her," Allen said.

It wasn't until the next morning that Allen said the photo taken of her friend at the casino revealed something more.

Something she said seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

Photographer captures ghost on camera in Massachusetts

TOWNSEND -- A local photographer got a surprise when he took a look at the photographs he had taken at Harbor Pond at dusk.

All but one of the images showing the dam and cooperage were what he expected when he got home and uploaded the files. The other picture caught his eye when it flashed on the computer screen.
In only that one image, lights shine through a window of the 18th century cooperage.

Tyler Kimbar, a Townsend photographer, took pictures in a series of three on Sunday, March 12. Each set of three pictures was taken within five seconds. Kimbar intended to combine the different exposures into one composite image to get the best color saturation.



In a set taken 10 minutes later, the first and third photos were unremarkable. The middle photo is quite different. Three lights appear in the window nearest the dam. Kimbar referred to those lights as a ghost figure.

"There were no cars going by and nobody was in the building because it was closed," he wrote in an email. "I was also the only car in the parking lot, so I can't explain where the light/figure came from."

No one else who was contacted could explain the lights.

"I have a table that's sitting in front of the window," said Laura Bradley, who opened an antiques co-op in the Cooperage in 2009. "There's no lamp there, no candle, no nothing.

Haunted Collector host eyes funeral home for haunted museum

ADAMS - After reviewing hundreds of potential sites, a renowned paranormal specialist and investigator may have found the perfect place to display his haunted wares: A funeral home.

John Zaffis, who hosted the cable TV show "Haunted Collector," has set his sights on a vacant building that once housed McBride Funeral Home to establish a paranormal museum and research facility.

"Over the course of years I've collected quite a few items," Zaffis said Wednesday from his Connecticut home. "They're out in my barn now, but I always thought it would be fun to have people see the items and hear the stories about how they are connected to hauntings."

Zaffis, 58, stressed that plans are still fluid, and that he hasn't put in an offer on the property yet.

The Liberty Street building, which has been vacant for more than 10 years, is listed for sale at $79,900.

The Haunted Town Hall of Orange, Massachusetts

ORANGE — For years the stories have circulated around town: residents attending town meetings and other events in the balcony and stage area of the Town Hall auditorium feel that someone was watching them when they were seemingly alone.

Now that selectmen have allowed a ghost-hunting group to investigate the building, board members may just learn whether the building is truly haunted, or not.

In March, the selectmen unanimously approved the Quabbin Valley Paranormal Society conduct an investigation of Town Hall auditorium, stage, balcony and front foyer. The investigation is scheduled for mid-May.

Ingrid Pollard, the group’s public relations director, told selectmen “We will come in and debunk” the ghost stories if there is no substance to them.

“I’m very excited about the investigation,” Pollard said in an interview after the meeting. “We have been hearing these stories for years and years and years and years.”

 

She said the group has also investigated the Orange Historical Society at 41 North Main St. on several occasions, and has determined there are spirits there. “They get a lot of donated items, so the spirits come in on those ... every time we go in there, we get something different,” Pollard said.

During an investigation, she explained, QVPS members come into the building and set up video, audio and electromagnetic recording equipment.

They also walk around, discuss the stories and ask questions, observing whether there are any sounds or other response to those questions.
